Swinburne and Boroondara City Council partner up

Swinburne and Boroondara City Council will continue to uphold their shared commitment to the community through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Since 2014, a Swinburne – Boroondara Working Group Committee have met to discuss how they can support the local community and assist university staff and students.
Swinburne Vice Chancellor, Professor Linda Kristjanson, says the new agreement will acknowledge the past and ongoing work between the university and the city council.
“There’s already such a genuine connection between Swinburne and Boroondara City Council. Although having the partnership is now recognised formally, we are looking forward to the promising future that lies ahead.”
A tree has also been planted at Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus, symbolising the long standing commitment both parties hope to embrace in years to come.
Cr Jim Parke, Mayor of Boroondara, said that Swinburne played an important role in the Boroondara community.
“Our vision for Boroondara is to have a vibrant and inclusive community with an outstanding quality of life and having an institution like Swinburne in our community contributes significantly to that vision.”
Initiatives that have stemmed from the relationship between Swinburne and the Boroondara City Council include:
- Boroondara’s White Ribbon Event hosted by Swinburne
- the Boroondara What If? Lecture series, which helps highlight Swinburne research activities to the general public.
Swinburne and Boroondara City Council hope this relationship will continue supporting the interests of the local community and offer valuable benefits for Swinburne staff and students for years to come.
