In Summary

Ben Cleverdon has been named as the Knox Rotary Club Perpetual Outstanding Horticulture Student at Swinburne University of Technology’s Apprentice of the Year awards.

Mr Cleverdon completed his Certificate III in Horticulture at Swinburne’s Wantirna campus and now runs his own business, Cleverdon Landscape Design.

“I was really honoured to win this award, because I know all of the other nominees worked really hard,” Mr Cleverdon said.

Since completing his qualification, Mr Cleverdon’s venture into operating his own business, Cleverdon Landscape Design, has been both successful and rewarding.

“Starting Cleverdon Landscape Design has been hard work, but it’s also been really lucrative,” Mr Cleverdon said.

“The business has been flat out all year, so it’s nice to have a lull at the moment so that I can get around to basics such as getting business cards printed!”

Reflecting on his time at Swinburne, Mr Cleverdon was thankful of the enthusiastic teaching staff.

“The content of the course was good, but it was the teaching of the horticulture course that made it so fantastic,” Mr Cleverdon said.

“The staff tailored the course to what I was passionate about, which meant I got a lot out of it.”
