In Summary

With the AFL season set to start this week, the Swinburne Computer is booting up to get ready for another year of footy tipping.

Emeritus Professor of Statistics, Stephen Clarke, from Swinburne University of Technology says this is the 35thyear the tips have been produced.

“Since then they have been published every year in media outlets including the Herald Sun, The Age, The Australian Financial review, Channel 7 and ABC radio,” Professor Clarke said.

“The Swinburne Computer is based on unbiased, quantitative predictions that are gathered from the previous year’s AFL results.”

For the last five years the tips have averaged a 72 per cent success rate, out-tipping most AFL experts.

“This time last year the computer predicted the top four correctly, and our last tip of the year was one of the few to correctly predict Hawthorn to win the 2014 Grand Final,” Professor Clarke said.

This year the Computer is predicting Port Adelaide to replace Geelong in the top 4.

The Swinburne Computer’s predictions for round 1 are:

  • Richmond
  • Gold Coast
  • Sydney
  • Brisbane Lions
  • West Coast
  • GWS Giants
  • Adelaide
  • Fremantle
  • Hawthorn

The weekly predicted winners are available free for publication. You can view Professor Stephen Clarke's round-by-round tips here.
