Swinburne's new $2 million scholarship program to support more than 250 students

Swinburne today unveiled its new scholarship program for 2015 – more than doubling the total number of scholarships available for promising students.
Swinburne will provide more than 250 scholarships for students in 2015 with total financial assistance valued at $2 million.
Swinburne’s new scholarship program supports both students who achieve academic excellence for current Year 12 students, as well as those who are experiencing financial disadvantage.
“At Swinburne we want the brightest and the best to have the opportunity to study at a university that is ranked in the top 3% in the world and top 3 in Melbourne,” said Swinburne's Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, Professor Jennelle Kyd.
“This major new initiative in financial assistance represents a significant increase in the assistance previously available to our students,” said Professor Kyd.
“Importantly, our scholarship program is different from some other universities in that it offers successful students cash-in-hand.”
“We’ve shaped this scholarship offering based on extensive feedback from our students. What they told us is that students most value financial support that can assist in meeting their living expenses, rather than just a discount on their student fees.”
Scholarships include Swinburne’s Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship which is available to eligible students who achieve an ATAR score of at least 95. Students may choose to study any one of over 60 degrees offered at Swinburne across a wide range of disciplines.
A further 200 scholarships made available include the Dean’s Scholarship where recipients must achieve an ATAR of 90 and above and the George Swinburne Merit Scholarships where recipients must achieve an ATAR of 85 and above.
Swinburne’s scholarships aim to provide access and equity to ensure university is an option for all students.
“Swinburne believes access to university should not be limited by personal circumstances and therefore recognises and supports community service, financial disadvantage and the need to relocate to study from regional areas through a wide variety of scholarships,” said Professor Kyd.
Financial support is also available for scholarship recipients who may wish to undertake an international study experience.
