Digital learning on show at Swinburne
In Summary
More than 800 primary and secondary school students will descend on Swinburne University of Technology’s Hawthorn campus to take part in the Digital Learning Showcase today.
They will play games for a cause and help others in need; talk with industry experts about pathways into an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) career; meet humanoid Nao robots; and experience campus life on a tour of Swinburne’s facilities.
All students will have a virtual visit with schoolchildren in remote villages in Paser, Indonesia, during a live video hook-up.
Meanwhile, Year 9 – 12 students will have the opportunity to meet and talk to guest panellists working in the ICT field during a careers forum.
Tomorrow, secondary teachers and educators from across Victoria will take part in the inaugural two-day Digital Learning and Teaching Conference (DLTV) - Creating New Connections at Swinburne.
“Swinburne is proud to support the advancement of teaching in information and communication technology,” Pro Vice-Chancellor (Digital Frontiers), Professor Leon Sterling, said.
“Swinburne thinks innovatively about where ICT sits and its importance in the curriculum. It is vital in today's world that all students have ICT skills, as technology is such an integral part of our life.”
The DLTV has been formed by merging the Victorian Information Teachers Association (VITTA) and ICT in Education Victoria (ICTEV) to create a new professional organisation focusing on digital learning and teaching in Victoria.
