In Summary

‌A new partnership between Swinburne University of Technology and Adobe is allowing exclusive opportunities for Swinburne students and staff to advance their knowledge and expertise in the area of digital media design.

The agreement with Adobe, known as the Adobe Partners by Design program, will give up to 50 Swinburne School of Design students free access to a 12-month Creative Cloud Membership, making university more affordable for many.

Dean of Design, Professor Scott Thompson-Whiteside, said Swinburne was proud to be in partnership with one of the world’s leading digital media and marketing companies.

“Adobe is one of the most comprehensive, frequently used products in the design industry, so we are happy to be able to formalise a relationship that has existed for many years in Swinburne’s School of Design,” Professor Thompson-Whiteside said.

“Adobe is recognised worldwide as a leader in its industry, and Swinburne is always looking for opportunities to further collaborate with peak industry bodies.”

In addition to software access, Swinburne will be able to participate in training and professional development programs, including study tours, industry panels and other on-campus events.

This will include the opportunity for a Swinburne member of staff to participate in a two-month sabbatical position at Adobe’s headquarters in San Jose, California, where they will work on a project with Adobe employees.

Throughout the next year, Swinburne students who are successful in the Adobe Design Achievement Awards will also be able to apply to have an Adobe Industry mentor review their work.

Professor Thompson-Whiteside said that by partnering with Adobe, Swinburne would be giving its students more access to industry.

“Swinburne’s School of Design has always placed a strong emphasis on industry networks; whether it be through our Industry Placement Program, the Swinburne Design Factory or one of the various semester projects our students work on.

“Our partnership with Adobe is just another example of how our design students receive a great deal of industry exposure before they graduate.”

With the current partnership running until February 2015, Swinburne is the only university in Victoria to be recognised as an Adobe Partner by Design.

As a way of celebrating the Adobe Partnership, the top current Swinburne student in each design course, based on overall performance in semester 1 2014, will be awarded a 12 month Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. The successful students will be contacted by their relevant course co-ordinators in the near future.
