During Semester 2 of my second year in Biomedical Science, I decided to go out and try to get some solid hands-on experience in a real-life lab setting.

I wasn’t always excelling in my labs at uni and I wanted more of a chance to refine my skills and boost my self-confidence. So, I applied for a professional placement (formerly industry-based learning IBL) at Peter Mac and it was perfect for what I really wanted to work on.

It was really good to change my routine and it gave me the opportunity to learn about the different pathways leading to science research. It was great that I got to meet new people and make a new set of friends. Becoming more accountable and taking on new responsibilities was really what enhanced my experience and challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. I gained valuable lessons and tools to carry into my future studies and projects as well.
