“I am positive that this internship will give my résumé an edge. Not only was it hands-on, professional experience in Melbourne is important for me as an international student. The company also has a good reputation in the industry which will hold me in good stead when I apply for jobs in the near future.”
I chose Swinburne because of its reputation as an industry-focused university, especially in the field of technology. I had heard glowing reviews of Swinburne’s course content and how it is continually updated according to the market’s requirements. This is really crucial for students as the IT sector is constantly changing and it is reassuring to know that Swinburne makes sure to adapt along with it.
I recently completed an internship at the Melbourne office of a leading developer and manufacturer of broadcast network infrastructure solutions.
I worked as a software quality assurance tester two days a week for three months. My role required me to ensure that all network management systems remained bug-free and fully functional. I also had the opportunity to develop a small program where I had to analyse files and create code.
I worked closely with the development team and learned a lot from these seasoned professionals, including the mechanisms of the latest Java. The internship also taught me the importance of documentation. I learned how to professionally document all my work and make it presentable. I also received a solid education on professional etiquette during meetings and other such settings. I learned how to present progress reports, how to take notes and how to communicate with other members of the team.
