If you have a disability or ongoing health issue and are undertaking a placement, Swinburne can offer a variety of support services.
You should advise us and your host organisation of your disability. We’ll work with you both to help balance your learning needs, adjustments and any accreditation requirements.
Under the Equal Opportunity Act (2010), Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and Disability Standards for Education (2005), your host organisation must provide 'reasonable adjustments' to ensure you’re able to undertake tasks and participate in the same capacity as others.
It is a good idea to register with AccessAbility, who will help you manage adjustments and can advise on disclosure and privacy. They will provide you with an Education Access Plan (EAP) which you can provide to your host. This sets out your requirements and suggests adjustments.
Registering with AccessAbility is voluntary. If you choose not to register, but want to disclose your disability to your host organisation, you can contact the placements team for assistance. Even if you don’t register, your host organisation must still accommodate your disability.
