Indigenous Studies
Examine the contemporary and historical experiences of the world’s oldest living and continuing culture with our Indigenous studies courses.
Explore the rich history of Indigenous cultures throughout the world with a particular focus on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
You’ll learn about fundamental Indigenous concepts including respect and relationships, connection to country, and kinship. You’ll investigate imperialism and colonialism, and form a deep knowledge of the issues that define Indigenous peoples experiences as Australian citizens in post-colonial society.
At Swinburne, we believe it's important to have accurate knowledge of the history and challenges faced by Indigenous communities. You’ll be encouraged to ‘Unlearn’, ‘Learn’, and ‘Act’ and develop a deep understanding of Indigenous Australian history, knowledge, entrepreneurship, representations and resilience.
Through our Indigenous studies courses, you will embark on a journey of discovery that will enable you to critically engage with contemporary and historical issues in Australian society that’ll benefit you in a range of professions.
