Looking for a way to involve parents in their child’s learning? At our PrimeSCI! Family Science Nights, family members can share the fun of learning about the fascinating world of science. 

Arranged at your school throughout the year, they can cater for up to 90 students (plus accompanying family members) per session.  

Running for 75 minutes, the sessions are delivered by dynamic presenters and are packed with hands-on activity stations.

Topics offered are:  Awesome Atmosphere, Chemistry Carnival and Spooky Science.

What to expect

  • Group Introduction (20 – 30min): introduction to underlying science concepts, important safety information and quick tour of activity tables with demonstrations;
  • Rotation through hands-on activity stations (60 – 70min): supervised by PrimeSCI! Staff, teachers or senior students.
     

Event requirements

What we provide:

  • 2 PrimeSCI! staff;
  • All science equipment and consumables;
  • Safety information.
     

What we need:

  • A large teaching space, e.g. hall or open connected classrooms;
  • Access to teaching space 90 minutes before the event;
  • Access to water and power;
  • Up to 8 volunteer teachers or senior students (Yr 6) to assist at Activity Tables*.
     

*Depending on topic and audience size.

Sample family science night schedule

PrimeSC! Staff arrive and unpack. Access to space required.
4:00pm Teacher volunteers meet with PrimeSC! Staff for short briefing on activity tables.
4:30pm - 5:45pm Session 1
6:00pm - 7:15pm Session 2
7:30pm - 8:15pm Pack up and exit school

  • One session: A$1950 + GST

75 minutes for up to 90 students, plus parent / guardian: 

  • One session: A$2190 + GST
  • Two sessions: A$2400 + GST

Carnival style family science night topics

This powerful session covers all sciences to explore the wonders of our life-giving atmosphere. Dry ice features in this carnival-like atmosphere as students experience the power and unexpected behaviour of air as it sucks, inflates and smashes. 

Students and families also come face-to-face with inflating lungs and learn about how asthma is caused. It’s an unforgettable evening that will be the talk of the school for weeks! 

This chemistry-based topic features the best of chemistry activities, investigating states of matter, mixing and un-mixing, and the properties of materials. A firm favourite with schools, expect all sorts of icky gloop, dry ice, and heart-pounding explosions to make this an unforgettable evening.

Chemistry Carnival - Family Science Night, August 2024

Spooky Science covers all things slimy, creepy, and a little bit scary. All sciences are explored as students make self-inflating balloons, slimy souvenirs and spooky sounds, make things appear and disappear, and get familiar with creepy crawlies.
