Judith Kinnear Student Travel Scholarship 2026
The Judith Kinnear Student Travel Scholarship supports a postgraduate student enrolled in a Master’s (by Research) or PhD in either the School of Science, Computing and Emerging Technologies or the School of Engineering. The scholarship provides funding for travel related to academic and professional development, such as attending conferences, visiting research institutes, or meeting potential business or research collaborators.
Dr Judith Kinnear, a former Swinburne student who completed a Graduate Diploma in Computer Simulation, went on to become Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sydney. She later made history as the first woman to lead a New Zealand university, serving as Vice-Chancellor of Massey University.
This scholarship is valued at $5,000 for one year only.
Courses eligible
Masters (by Research) or PhD in the School of Science, Computing and Emerging Technologies or School of Engineering.
Eligibility / selection criteria
To be eligible for the Judith Kinnear Student Travel Scholarship, applicants must:
- Meet the following enrolment criteria:
- be a continuing Swinburne student in Semester 1, 2026
- enrolled full-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
- Submit a personal statement of 500 words addressing how the attendance at a ‘significant career-impacting international event’ will be of professional benefit to you and the impact on your career
- Demonstrate that you have limited or no access to University or external funding for your travel plans/visit and that without the appropriate funding, you will not be able to undertake the travel
- Provide an estimated breakdown of costs required (i.e. conference registration, flight and/or accommodation costs, etc)
- Be undertaking travel in the year the Scholarship is awarded.
Value
This scholarship is valued at $5,000.
The scholarship payment will be made as a reimbursement when original receipts are presented and submitted to the University, for example conference registration, flight and/or accommodation bookings.

Applicants must complete and submit an online application form and all supporting documentation by 15 March 2026.
