Swinburne has entered a joint venture partnership with New Zealand provider UP Education to continue to grow the university’s English language and pathway programs.
Leveraging the strengths of each institution, Swinburne and UP Education will promote Swinburne’s English language and pathway offerings internationally. Vice-Chancellor Professor Linda Kristjanson AO says the partnership will support Swinburne to continue to grow and further position Swinburne as an industry leader.
“This partnership creates new opportunities that will benefit the university and our students, aligned with Swinburne’s 2025 vision and strategy. The joint venture will enhance Swinburne’s existing marketing and recruitment capability, providing access to new and emerging international markets,” says Professor Kristjanson.
The joint venture will deliver Swinburne’s English language (ELICOS) courses, Foundation Year courses, UniLink diplomas and Masters Qualifying Program at the university’s Hawthorn campus.
UP Education Group CEO, Mark Rushworth says the partnership will help bring international students to a prestigious and career-orientated university in a key metropolitan centre in Australia.
“We are thrilled to be working with Swinburne University of Technology on this joint venture. Swinburne is a globally ranked university and a leader in science, technology, innovation, business and design. Having a large university partner in Melbourne, one of Australia’s leading education centres, creates great opportunities for our students.”
The joint venture, named Swinburne Academy, is anticipated to be in place for a 2020 delivery.
Swinburne’s education partnerships
The announcement follows other strategic academic partnerships in 2019.
In February, Swinburne partnered with Education Centre of Australia, a leader in the international student market, to deliver a small suite of internationally in-demand postgraduate programs in Parramatta, Sydney. In October, Swinburne Vietnam officially opened to deliver a small suite of sought-after undergraduate programs in partnership with the technology-focused FPT University.
“Swinburne is committed to providing excellent outcomes in learning and is dedicated to delivering outstanding experiences for our students to help them achieve their professional purpose,” says Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Duncan Bentley.
