Dr Alan Duffy to host evening with Brian Greene
Tuesday 8 March 2016
Swinburne’s Dr Alan Duffy will join prominent physicist Dr Brian Greene at his Melbourne show.
Swinburne astronomer Dr Alan Duffy will join internationally renowned physicist and science communicator, Dr Brian Greene, to host an event at Melbourne Park on 19 March 2016.
Dr Greene is at the forefront of string theory research – a theoretical framework in physics that aims to transform the way the physical world is understood, from being particle-based to a series of interacting one-dimensional ‘strings’.
His work has become widely known through books for the general public and related television specials. He is know for his ability to weave the complexity of physics into simpler ideas, which can be easily understood by those with all levels of interest in science.
Dr Greene is in Australia in March, and will present at public events in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
“It’s an honour to host such a prominent figure in the scientific world,” Dr Duffy, from the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing, says.
“Swinburne’s involvement with this event is an example of how we are driven to be at the scientific and technological cutting edge, just as Brian Greene and string theory are at the theoretical cutting edge.”
Dr Greene’s tour is presented by Think Inc.
