When I was young my family and I lived on a farm. The land was healthy and very green. It was self supporting; we grew our vegetables and killed our own meat. We had cows and sheep.

One of the things that has changed is that the land is no longer supporting the local farmers, because of the drought. This makes it more expensive to plant grain, to water the stock and the crops. The cost to farmers is passed on to the customer in the supermarkets.

Children of today do not know what it is like to grow and produce their own food in their own back yards. They think that food comes from supermarkets. If it wasn't for our farmers all our food would come from overseas. With imported food, we don’t know how it was grown and what chemicals it has been treated with and how fresh it is when it arrives in our stores.

I am very disappointed in our past and present governments for not planning ahead to foresee our present condition.
