Hello I am Danae Newman and I interviewed my mum who is 33 years old.
Q. So mum, can you please describe what the water environment was like when you were growing up?
A. We always had water to swim in, go under sprinklers, wash the car with a hose and water the garden.
Q. What changes have you seen in the environment since that time?
A. Our water supply has dwindled dramatically and our population has increased requiring more water every year.
Q. How and why has it changed?
A. Our water supply has diminished because of the draught, climate change, lack of water recycling and population growth.
Q. What do you believe caused the changes that you have listed?
A. With the drought it’s just because of the higher average temperature than usual. Climate change has occurred because of the burning of fossil fuels, increases in the use of electricity and natural gas. With respect to recycling and population growth these are just due to changes in a range of social and economical factors.
Q. How does it make you feel?
A. It makes me feel both sad and angry, knowing that our kids have to conserve the water that we once had in such abundance. It also upsets me that our children are not able to have the fun with water that we were able to when we were younger.
Thank you for letting me interview you mum. I really appreciate your time and your views on our water issues.
