About the Memoirs

‘Environmental Memoirs' is a not for profit initiative to collect a series of memoirs from citizens that are living within degrading ecological environments. The memoirs record the history of individuals and communities experiencing the stress of declining living standards due to degraded natural environments. Memoirs may include the plight of Uzbeks and the receding waters of the Aral Sea, or how overgrazing has impacted on the lives of nomadic people. A number of expert commentaries will be included to provide further context and understanding of the environmental issues.

The individuals recording the memoirs are traveling from March 2006 to December 2006 and will traverse more then 14 countries throughout the Asian continent. This site is being continually updated with the collection of recorded memoirs and images of the project.

The aim of this project is to illustrate how the health of people and their communities is dependent on the health of their supporting ecological systems. The audience is all people and all communities.

The desired outcome of this project is to promote increased respect, equity and peace amongst people, communities and the environment.
