Research at Swinburne
Our exceptional research belies our relatively small size

Swinburne values research.
Not just for the kudos that comes with big discoveries. Not just for the intellectual stimulation that comes from asking the big questions. Not just because it’s 'something universities do’.
It exposes students to bright minds and big ideas. It allows them to learn what it takes to find solutions which advance our community and our understanding of the world.
We attract world-class minds. We offer students the opportunity to participate in world-changing projects. And we back those participants with appropriate levels of funding. It’s why we’ve committed $250 million to our focused areas of world class research over the next four years.
And our investment is already paying dividends. In 2007, Swinburne was ranked 11th of Australia’s 38 universities in revenue per academic in the Australian Research Council Discovery Grants Program (2007 Annual Report, Swinburne University of Technology).
