Library Services for Researchers
Your library can work for you – we are here to help you succeed in your research at Swinburne.
Promote Swinburne Research
Showcase Swinburne research
Swinburne Research Bank is an online open access collection of research authored by Swinburne researchers. Content includes journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, reports, working papers and more. Swinburne Research Bank is designed to create a complete picture of research published at Swinburne.
Increase access
Publications made available though open access can be more frequently cited and have greater impact than research published only through traditional scholarly media.
Swinburne Research Bank records are indexed by Google and other search engines, and harvested by international indexing services and the National Library of Australia, helping your research to reach a wider audience and maximise its potential for citation. Contact the Library if you would like to have your publications included.
Scholarly publishing support
Swinburne Online Journals provides a publication platform for online open access journals including:
- technical infrastructure support
- help and advice on online publishing and copyright.
Swinburne Library staff also provide advice on creating and hosting websites for conferences and providing access to conference papers.
Copyright and permissions
Swinburne Library provides advice on copyright issues for publishing and support in negotiating terms and conditions.
Access Research
Library collection
The Library supports Swinburne Research Excellence and actively seeks new material that matches Swinburne’s areas of research concentration.. Library staff work with academic and research staff to maintain the currency and relevance of the collection. If you have any suggestions for additional material, please contact your Liaison Librarian.
Databases and other online resources
The Library subscribes to many full text and citation databases across a wide range of disciplines. These databases are valuable resources for researchers, providing online access to a vast selection of research materials. Content includes full text journal and newspaper articles, statistics, legislation, standards, theses and more.
You can search multiple databases and other online resources simultaneously using Supersearch.
Material from other libraries
Inter-library loan and document delivery services provide the Swinburne University research community with access to research literature that is not available at Swinburne.
If you would like to borrow in person from other libraries we have reciprocal borrowing arrangements established.
Keep up to date
Keep your literature review up to date automatically by setting up electronic alerting services.
Demonstrate Research Quality
Bibliometric measures
The Library provides advice on how to use resources to obtain bibliometric measures such as citation analysis and journal impact factors.
Citation databases
Library subscriptions cover the most commonly used databases for bibliometric measures, such as Scopus and Web of Knowledge.
Discipline specific metrics
Not all disciplines are equally covered by traditional bibliometric measures. If you’d like to discuss quality measures in your discipline area please contact us.
Research quality assessment
The Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative will assess the quality and impact of research publication output, and is likely to use metrics and other impact measures to evaluate research quality. The Library is available to provide valuable advice and support in meeting the requirements of research quality assessment exercises.
