EndNote X1 Bibliographic Software

Contents

What is Bibliographic software?

Bibliographic software allows you to organise your references and create bibliographies in hundreds of citation styles. The library offers training to Swinburne honors and postgraduate students and Swinburne staff.

Endnote desktop training comprises 1 hands-on workshop session of 1.5 - 2.5 hours. Learn how to:

  • Manage your collected references
  • Create bibliographies in a variety of styles
  • Import records from Swinburne Library databases and other external sources
  • Use EndNote with Word (Cite-While-You-Write)

Is Endnote X1 compatible with my computer? Do I need to upgrade from Endnote X?

    • If you are using Windows Vista and Word 2007, you should install Endnote X1 to the Documents area, rather than the default Program Files. Program Files is a secured section and you will not be able to add new styles or make changes to existing ones.
    • If you are using Windows Vista and Word 2003, you will have compatibility issues with both Endnote X and X1. You need to upgrade to Word 2007, and then install Endnote X1.
    • If you are using Windows XP and Word 2003, X1 is compatible.
    • Download the patch and instructions to make Endnote X1 for Mac OS X compatible with the new release Word 2008.
Please see the Endnote X1 for Mac page for Mac training notes, style downloading instructions and faqs.

Getting the Endnote software

Swinburne has an EndNote site licence for Swinburne staff and post-graduate students. EndNote X1 for Windows and Mac is available on CD-ROM from Swinburne campus libraries at the service desks. Please specify which software you require.

Staff can download the software to Swinburne machines from the NAL.

Offcampus students can request the software via off-campus-service@swin.edu.au - Please specify which software you require.
Note for overseas students: our license does not permit us to supply Endnote outside of Australia.

Endnote Web

Endnote Web is a web-based service designed for undergraduates, and for experienced users who are away from their computers and Endnote.
User accounts MUST BE SET UP ON-CAMPUS.

Flash tutorials are available at the website. Please use Harvard (Qld) style as this is the closest match to Swinburne's Harvard guide.
