Be prepared for study

It’s important to know the amount of study time that is expected from you. Juggling work, family, social and other commitments often proves challenging and adding study to the mix doesn’t make life any simpler! Plan your time wisely and allocate yourself suitable study time where you can dedicate yourself to the task at hand, whether it’s reading recommended materials or working on group projects.

For most programs it is recommended that in addition to formal class time you spend at least an equivalent number of hours per week in private study and/or team project work. Prioritise your tasks, manage your time efficiently and you will be able to reap the rewards of taking time out, without the books by your side!

Many of Swinburne’s postgraduate programs can be taken on a part-time basis, with some classes offered online and in the evening or weekends. Swinburne’s flexible delivery means your life doesn’t need to stop when you enrol.

Ensure you have a supportive environment

There will be times when work relating to your postgraduate program will take priority over other parts of your life. Having a supportive environment in the workplace, a network of family and friends and using services available to you such as childcare, will allow you to focus on your studies more effectively.

A supportive employer may afford you the benefits of enhancing your skill set and gaining an additional qualification at no cost or at a reduced cost to you. Alternatively they may provide you with flexibility in your working hours, information to assist with projects or time off to focus on upcoming exams.

Access to technology and online learning now forms an integral role in the learning process.
