Getting to CQOS

CQOS is on the Hawthorn Campus of Swinburne, located approximately 7 kilometres from the centre of Melbourne. The labs are in the Swinburne Optics and Laser Laboratories (SOLL) on the ground floor of the Applied Science building, on the corner of Burwood Road and Serpells Lane. Most staff offices are on the Mezzanine Level of the Engineering (EN) building. Getting to CQOS is quite straightforward, either by train or car.

By train (the recommended method)...
From any train station in the city centre, catch any train on the Lilydale, Belgrave, or Alamein lines. Get off the train at Glenferrie station (there are "Swinburne University" signs on the station platforms), go down the ramps and through the barriers by the ticket office. Turn right at the ticket office, and then left at the phone boxes at the end of the arcade shops. Walk along the path (Swinburne Walk) between the railway line and car park for about 50m. Then
EITHER to go to the SOLL labs, turn right at the campus sign and map. After walking about 50 metres the Applied Science building will be on your left (4 storey brick building on the corner of Burwood Road). The entrance to SOLL is through the clearly marked glass doors just before you reach Burwood Road.
OR to go to the staff offices, continue on the path parallel to the railway about 50m to the covered walkway on the right to the main campus courtyard. Go through the walkway, and the EN building is on your right. In the EN foyer, go to the grey door at the bottom of the down escalator marked EN177. You will need to use the phone by the door to call either 5151 or the number of the person you are visiting.

By car...
From the city centre drive east along Victoria Parade, and then turn right onto Glenferrie Road. Travelling south along Glenferrie, turn left onto Burwood Road. The first street on the left is Serpells Lane. The entrance to SOLL is through the glass doors on the ground floor of the Applied Science building, on Serpells Lane.

Car parking
Parking around the campus can be a problem, so we advise the use of a nearby multi-deck car park. To drive there, turn off Glenferrie Road onto Wakefield Street. The car park entrance will be on the left.
