Professor Allan Whitfield is the Director for the National Institute for Design Research and Research Leader for the Neuroaffective Design group. He has published extensively in both the psychology and design literature, including, in the former, the British Journal of Psychology, Perception & Psychophysics, and Vision Research, and in the latter, Design Studies, Design Issues, and the Design Journal.
His research interests are in the fields of aesthetics (the user experience, and psychological modelling), neuroevolutionary psychology, and quantitative methods for evaluating designed objects. Until recently he was chair of the industry committee British Standards Institution (STI/14) Colour Measurement and Schedules, a member of Standards Association of Australia (CH/3), and Leader of the UK Delegation to the International Standards Organisation Technical Committee (ISO/TC187).
