"Studying at Swinburne has really helped me streamline my career ambitions and develop realistic goals for myself, some of which I have already been able to achieve, such as having my film screened at an international film festival and winning an award.

I have learnt countless new skills while studying at Swinburne, such as shooting, editing, lighting and animation techniques. Personally I have found the teaching staff to be amazing and to always go beyond what was required of them in order to make sure that I succeeded in my studies and was well prepared for the workplace.

I can’t thank the teaching staff enough for all the help and advice that I was given while my production team and I were working on our clay animated film “Good Morning”. Without their support I’m sure the film would not have been as successful as it has, by going on to win the Platinum Remi at the international WorldFest Houston film festival. I was obviously pretty happy to find out that our film had won. The thing that surprised me the most was that we weren’t entered into a student category - we were right in there with the big boys. I was amazed to find out that we were up against professional film-makers. And yet, we won.”

"I came down from Canberra to study at Swinburne’s Faculty of Design. I chose Swinburne because the facilities looked great, the staff were really friendly and the work being produced by students was incredible.

Swinburne’s Bachelor of Film and Television, as far as I have heard, is one of the most practical film courses around and it certainly feels that way. I have become more and more interested in cinematography, being able to learn about and use the equipment on a regular basis has been great. All of the projects that I have done while at Swinburne have been very free reign. We have never been limited by a particular topic, genre, theme etc and we are encouraged to be as creative and experimental as we wish.

During the summer break I went on a study tour to Berlin. We went to the Berlinale Film Festival and it was one of the most exciting things I have ever done. Last year, I also went on exchange to America. I lived on campus in a dormitory, studied film, made friends with the locals, popped up to New York City on the weekends and managed to celebrate Thanksgiving three or four times. I was also able to travel all over the country and see and experience some of the most incredible things. My exchange was probably the best thing I have done in life so far. You learn so much about yourself and others when you travel that it really should be a mandatory thing."

"I decided in second year to transfer to Swinburne as the curriculum was much more practical; you are taught how to hold a camera, learn how to create a film and write a script.

The course definitely prepared me to learn what I need to work in the industry. I am currently on Industry Placement working at Ghost Pictures, a film company in East St Kilda. I assist with editing, digitising, footage, helping out with shoots, setting up the camera and assisting with press promotions and marketing material. I recently helped a filmmaker promote a film showing at the Cannes film festival, which was exciting."
