Work Experience Program - Europe (Italy) /Japan

Japanese Studies European Studies

Work experience abroad is an exciting and effective path for students to gain immediate experience in an international setting. Learning to live, work and understand a different international reality is a major lifelong enrichment experience, which will remain for years to come. Work experience abroad not only provides a concrete international experience, but also assists the process of bridging the academic "textbook" explanations with the "street" reality in an unfolding world of major complexity. Undertaking this work experience abroad puts the global world and economy at your fingertips and under the watchful eye and guidance of the Faculty of Business and Enterprise, Swinburne University.

Students should see this work experience as a capstone to their studies. The experience should come towards the end of their studies to better understand and exploit the opportunity. In many cases you will be required to have first and second stage prerequisites. In other cases there might be language prerequisites and a maturity to be able to confront these worldly experiences. The Faculty of Business and Enterprise offers a rare opportunity to take this experience and be academically accredited for it.

What to be aware of!

Some Work Experience Abroad, depending on the country, can be unpaid or poorly renumerated. Students should understand that this work experience may be highly sought after and therefore the competitive nature of work places for experience places the financial living allowance burden on the student. In many circumstances students are encouraged to seek out employment opportunities. SUT does not always have the employment contacts in each and every market. Students are considered Ambassadors of Swinburne University and therefore are expected to respect to abide by the laws and customs of the country within which they are undertaking this experience.

Assessment Details

Work Experience students are required to undergo assessment in order for the accreditation to have some worth. In addition, some Work Experience subjects will require projects/essay/assignments on themes of relevance to that Work Experience. This will be agreed upon between the student and the course convenor.
