AGSE Hall of Fame Induction Dinner
Congratulations to Roger and Lesley Gillespie, co-founders and current CEOs of Bakers Delight, Leon Serry, founder and former Managing Director of Circadian Technologies Limited, Lyn Swinburne, founder and CEO of Breast Cancer Network Australia, and Rob Adams, Director, Design and Culture, City of Melbourne for their induction into the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. Event: Making Corporate Responsibility Strategic - Tuesday 19 August, 9:00am
A one day event held in conjunction with the Centre for Social Impact at UNSW will provide CSR managers with fresh thinking about how to position CSR within the organisation and how to deal with resistance. Not-for-profit executives will gain increased understanding of how to implement corporate responsibility initiatives in their organisation. > More information

The Centre for Social Impact

On July 15 the formal launch by the Governor-General of the Centre for Social Impact (CSI) took place at the University of New South Wales.

The CSI is a major new initiative drawing together and consolidating the growing Australia-wide interest in philanthropy, social investment, the not-for-profit sector, and social entrepreneurship. The CSI brings together Swinburne University (through the AGSE's Asia-Pacific Centre for Philanthropy and Social Investment), the University of Melbourne (through the Melbourne Business School), and the University of New South Wales, at which it is based. > More information

FBE Wins a European Commission Grant
The FBE, along with 3 of the European ECIU partners, have been successful in a bid for a 138,800 Euros grant to support student and scholar mobility to Australia.  Three members of the ECIU - the University of Strathclyde, Aalborg Universitet and Technische Universitat Hamburg - are currently supported by the European Union to run a joint master level program in Global Innovation Management (GIM). The GIM will have its first intake in September 2008. GIM students will be accepted on an exchange basis, which provides an opportunity for our master level students to study at the partner ECIU institutions as exchange students. The funding will also support up to 4 ECIU scholars per year (for 2 years) to participate in a broad range of teaching and research roles in the FBE or other faculties.

ARC Linkage Success for FBE
(Professor) Philip Taylor, Professor of Employment Policy and Director - Business, Work and Ageing Centre for Research, Associate Professor Libby Brookes and Business, Work and Ageing Centre for Research staff were delighted to be notified last Thursday that they had been awarded an Australian Research Council Linkage scheme grant of $430,000 to undertake the 'Working Late' research project.

Welcome Dr. Suresh Cuganesan
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Suresh Cuganesan will be assuming the new role of Professor of Accounting. Suresh is coming to Swinburne from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, where he is currently Associate Dean, Research.

Suresh has worked in the areas of management consulting and institutional banking before recommencing his academic career. He currently occupies a position on CPA Australia's Business Management Centre of Excellence, and is a member of the Asian Board of the American Academy of Financial Management. Suresh's research interests are in the areas of: strategic costing; business performance and intellectual capital measurement and management; and, the design of management control systems. Suresh has published 3 books and over 50 journal articles, conference papers and book chapters. He is also on the editorial boards of a number of leading national and international academic journals.
