Swinburne welcomes reform of vocational education

Swinburne welcomes the Victorian Government's decision to reform vocational education.
The reform plans recognises the critical role of TAFEs and dual sector universities. It rewards high quality providers and acknowledges the distinct role played by public providers in providing a skilled workforce for the Victorian economy.
Executive Director of Pathways and Vocational Education, David Coltman, says the changes would make a real difference in the Victorian community.
"Vocational Education and Training gives students the hands-on skills they need to fill skills gaps in our economy. Public providers do this best and today’s announcement is an acknowledgement of that."

Mr Coltman says that although the State Government’s announcement address a substantial component of the VET policy landscape, complementary action is also required at the federal level.
"We expect to see a strong emphasis on quality in Minister Birmingham’s redesign of VET FEE-HELP to ensure students continue to have access to world class vocational education."
