Swinburne sponsored NAIDOC award-winner Nora Young is flying high after landing a job with Jetstar and paving the way for a new Indigenous scholarship in aviation.
Ms Young was awarded the Indigenous Youth Employment and Education Award by a Swinburne panel this July at the Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) NAIDOC ball.

The Indigenous Youth Employment and Education Award is sponsored by Swinburne with a panel acknowledging the great achievements and future leaders of the indigenous community.
Studying a Certificate II in Aviation through Aviation Australia, Ms Young achieved high grades across all her subjects and led her class through Cabin Crew training. Her hard work was recognised by Jetstar and on assessment day they offered her a permanent position.
Ms Young’s study was funded by a partnership between Whitelion and The Altara Group, while her success has inspired the partnership to agree upon an annual scholarship for other interested Indigenous people.
“Nora is clearly a quiet, strong young leader,” Swinburne Indigenous Liaison Officer Lea Jones says.
“Her leadership and pride in her Aboriginality continues to inspire our young people and she is a great example of what is possible when given a chance with the right supports in place.”
Ms Young will act as a mentor for future scholarship recipients and the partnership is currently considering naming the scholarship after her.
