Swinburne University of Technology has congratulated the ten new Tech Schools to be built in Victoria based on the successful model operating at Swinburne’s Wantirna campus.
In 2014, the Knox Innovation, Opportunity and Sustainability Centre (KIOSC) was singled out as a model for the Tech School concept to be rolled out throughout Victoria.
The high-tech learning centre, located at Swinburne’s Wantirna campus, comprises a technology rich interactive Discovery Centre designed for visits by primary and secondary students accompanied by their teachers.
The educational programs at KIOSC are designed to improve students’ scientific literacy and critical thinking skills and broaden their understanding of possible study and career paths.
The facility is the result of a unique partnership between the university and the Knox Consortium of Schools, supported by the City of Knox.
The Victorian Government announced today that new Tech Schools will be situated at Ballarat, Banyule, Bendigo, Casey, Geelong, Gippsland, Monash, Whittlesea, Wyndham and the Yarra Ranges.
“We’re delighted to see the KIOSC educational model that is expanding opportunity in the Knox area inspiring change throughout the state,” said Swinburne’s Vice-President (Engagement), Andrew Smith.
"It’s a proven model and a great foundation on which to build in other locations throughout Victoria.”
