A contact centre at Swinburne University of Technology, designed for prospective students interested in Vocational Education and Training (VET), is providing more support and easier access to information.
The service, Swinburne Start, is offered at the university’s Croydon and Wantirna campuses and focuses on pre-enrolment advice, a clear point of contact for prospective students, apprenticeship and traineeship guidance, campus tours and one-on-one appointments for detailed course information.
Linda Kearley, the manager of Swinburne Start, believes it will help people interested in VET feel more confident about their decisions.
“Beginning a VET course can be a scary time, and I’m proud to say we’re helping people confidently make the transition into training, and then into the workforce.
“Since Swinburne Start began, we’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback from new and interested students, as well as schools and youth support networks and community organisations that work with youth.”
As well as prospective students, Swinburne Start can provide more information on VET programs to schools, career teachers, youth workers and parents.
VET courses provide students with nationally recognised job-ready skills with outcomes specifically related to getting a job, as well as providing pathways to further education.
Swinburne’s vocational training offers courses from a Certificate I qualification through to an Advanced Diploma, including study areas such as business, design, ICT, health and science, youth and community, built environment, electrotechnology, environment and horticulture, and more.
