In Summary

Building on a commitment to offer high quality early childhood education, Swinburne University of Technology has announced it will offer an on-campus Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) at both its Hawthorn and Wantirna locations.

The new campus- based degree aims to meet a growing demand for the course following the huge success of the Swinburne Online early childhood course and will address the shortage of degree qualified professionals in early childhood teaching.

Importantly, the new degree will provide Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care students with an articulated pathway into a Bachelor degree with exemptions- beneficial to those already working in the industry who wish to upskill- while providing a suite of education programs for students wishing to pursue careers in early childhood teaching.

Flexible part time and evening study will be available and students will also be offered the option of accelerated pathways to early completion.

Classes have been designed with a more practical and engaging approach to teaching and learning reflecting the latest in education innovation and practice.

Dr Mick Grimley, Academic Director of Teacher Education and Associate Professor of Education says

“We can no longer rely on traditional models of teaching to equip our students for the workplace.

“Our degree will equip our students to be professionals in the learning environments that they will teach in while providing them with the flexibility they need to study.”
