Christopher has pioneered many firsts for biotechnology in Zambia.

As the only Zambian with his unique qualifications, he designed and set up the country’s first Animal Health Biotechnology Laboratory. Now he is a leader at the National Biosafety Authority, the country’s first biotechnology and biosafety regulatory institution. In this role he liaises with local and international organisations to regulate biosafety and gene modification.

Christopher Simuntala, Senior Biosafety Officer – Standards and Technical Liaison, National Biosafety Authority and Swinburne Master of Science (Biotechnology) alumnus.

Christopher says the world-class laboratories and practical work in his degree gave him the skills to set up and run a laboratory back home. He believes Swinburne made him the scientist he is today.
