Structural engineering

The structural engineering research group focuses on analytical modelling and physical testing of structural systems and components. Many of our projects have resilience and sustainability themes through the use of new materials and extending the life of existing facilities.

The group uses the innovative Smart Structures Laboratory, one of Swinburne's specialist facilities for conducting large-scale research and consulting projects. The reaction wall of the lab allows for large-scale experimental tests of structural systems from which performance and damage curves can be developed for industry applications ranging from impacts from climate change to increased wind speeds.
