Services and Facilities


Academic Advice and Advocacy

The Swinburne Student Amenities Association (SSAA) has professional and experienced staff to provide help for a range of academic, administrative and personal issues.

Each year they assist hundreds of students with academic appeals, progress review meetings, grievances, special consideration applications, academic misconduct hearings (e.g. plagiarism), discrimination and harassment matters.

Academic advisers will listen to your issues and provide unbiased advice on the best way forward. The service is free, confidential and independent from Swinburne.



Accommodation

If you need help finding accommodation, the Swinburne International website has a wealth of information to help you find out about your different options.

Swinburne International also has a dedicated staff member to provide assistance to international students looking for somewhere to live.

 

Bookshop

The Swinburne bookshop has many resources. These include textbooks, novels, general interest and second-hand books as well as a full range of stationery and much more.



Careers and Employment

Swinburne's Careers and Employment team provide free seminars, resume checks, interview practise sessions and access to an online employment database to help you find part-time work. These services are available to current students and alumni.

International students with permission to work may not undertake work until they have started their course in Australia. They are limited to 20 hours work per week while their course is in session, and may work full-time during formal holiday periods.



Clubs and Societies

One of the best ways to meet like-minded people and make new friends is to join one of Swinburne’s many clubs and societies.

There is a large range of clubs and societies which you can join. These include general interest, social, cultural, sporting and educational groups.

 

Health and Wellbeing

Health Services offers a friendly and accessible service at all Swinburne campuses. These include first aid, medical consultations, health counselling, health promotion and information.

Services are provided at low cost (medical consultations) or for free. Staff are friendly, experienced and they offer a highly professional service. They respect the confidentiality of all their patients.




Language and Academic Skills (LAS)

The LAS team provides advice and instruction about academic language and learning to international students. The team is made up of teachers who can help you with reading, writing, listening and speaking skills (as well as many others) – both in and out of the classroom.

 

Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S)

The Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) website provides up-to-date guidelines on all aspects of OH&S which should be strictly adhered to. This ensures your safety as well as staff and fellow students.

 

Prayer Rooms

Students can now access a newly established multi faith facility on Level 3 in the George Swinburne Building at the Hawthorn campus. This includes the use of the quiet room – a place of silence for reflection, prayer, contemplation or meditation. The quiet room is located in room 307 and is open during standard university opening times Monday to Friday.

Please note that the Muslim prayer room continues to operate off McLeod Lane until further notice, but will be relocating to this new facility soon. Click here to see a map of the Hawthorn campus.

Safety

Student health, safety and wellbeing and is a priority at Swinburne. We provide numerous facilities and services to support the safety of all our students. Some of these include:

  • An after-hours hotline
  • Pre-departure information about safety and security
  • A comprehensive orientation program, which includes an info session by Victoria Police about keeping safe in Melbourne
  • Free confidential counselling and student support services
  • 24-hour security at all campuses, including CCTV and a late-night chaperon service to walk you to your car, train station or another destination on campus
  • A night bus service at the Hawthorn, Lilydale and Prahran campuses which can drop you off safely within the local area.

 

Student Development and Counselling

Student Development and Counselling offers a range of personal, confidential and free services to students by professional counsellors. You can get assistance with:

  • Grief and loss
  • Personal, relationship and family issues
  • Self-esteem and personal development issues
  • Stress, time management and effective study methods
  • Cross-cultural issues such as adjusting to Australian culture and university life.


Student Information Centre

The Student Information Centre can help with general enquiries about:

  • Issuing or replacing your student identity card
  • Getting an official printout of your results
  • Awards and graduation enquiries
  • Certifying Swinburne documents
  • General information and referral.

Swinburne International

Swinburne International (SI) deals with the administration and support of international students. SI can assist with admission enquiries and applications, scholarships, tuition fee queries, student visas, health cover and accommodation.

 

Swinburne Student Amenities Association (SSAA)

The Swinburne Student Amenities Association (SSAA) provides a range of services to Swinburne students. SSAA is a wholly owned company of Swinburne. Its purpose is to secure the on-going provision and enhancement of quality services to students in a transparent and cost effective way.


Swinburne University Sport and Recreation (Swinergy)

Find out about health and fitness services as well as sporting activities offered at Swinburne.

 

Swinlink

Swinlink is Swinburne’s online student administration system. It is provided for current and former Swinburne students and is used for making course fee payments via credit-card as well as viewing and maintaining your personal details.

Course fee payments can be made for any debts, charges or instalments for your course. (Please note that this system does not accept payments for library fines, health insurance or short courses).

You can view and maintain your personal details, including:

  • Name and date of birth
  • Postal and permanent address
  • Email address
  • Telephone numbers
  • Emergency contact details
  • Employer details.
