Peter Marcato
Graduate Diploma of Arts (Commercial Radio)
"I chose Swinburne because it's one of only two educational institutions in Australia to offer a course in the area.
Swinburne's course is well recognised in the industry as a pathway into commercial radio. I also wanted to increase my skills and knowledge in the commercial radio area as I have a passion for radio and have done so for many years.
I enjoy this field because of the ability to communicate one on one with an audience and to be able to express my personality and creativity.
I also enjoy the programming side and how radio stations work behind the scenes. The course at Swinburne has taught me a set of skills that can be used in every aspect of the radio industry and many more job opportunities have opened up due to this.
The best aspects of this course have been the new friends I made who have become great contacts, and the ability to learn about an area that I'm passionate about.
The two-week placement into a regional station was also a highlight. The industry guest speakers also provided plenty of inspiration.
I have now completed the course and am currently working in the commercial radio industry as a journalist with Triple M Melbourne.
I am also a lecturer/tutor here at Swinburne and a freelance broadcaster."
