  • Awarded by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency
  • Swinburne aims to be Australia’s leading university for inclusion

Swinburne has been named an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality for the eighth consecutive year by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).

“Today we celebrate the benefits that gender diversity brings to our organisation and the ways that diversity enriches experiences, fosters understanding, drives innovation and creates impact,” Vice-Chancellor Professor Linda Kristjanson says.

How Swinburne advanced gender equality in 2016:

  • Parental leave entitlements were extended so that all primary carers have equal access to parental leave entitlements.
  • Five prestigious fellowships created for female applicants in STEMM. These will provide women with the opportunity to fully focus on research early in their careers. Having the security of ongoing research and a teaching position is crucial in ensuring Swinburne retains excellent women in STEMM.
  • Continued involvement in Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) pilot program, which aims to help increase the number of women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) disciplines.
  • Swinburne is developing support tools to assist transgender students and staff under LGBTIQ, which will be launched in 2017.

Closing the gap on gender equality remains a key priority for Swinburne. The university aims to achieve gender pay equity across the university by 2020. For details please consult Swinburne’s Gender Equality Action Plan.

Gender equality in the workplace remains a focus at Swinburne. We aim to be Australia’s leading university for inclusion and Swinburne’s focus on gender equality is one aspect of our inclusion plan. Other important initiatives include:
