A leading contributor to Australian tertiary education, Professor Murray Gillin AM, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate at Swinburne University of Technology’s graduation ceremony this week.

Professor Murray Gillin's professional career has spanned a broad spectrum of teaching and research areas, including the engineering, entrepreneurship and innovation fields.

In 1979 Professor Gillin was appointed Dean of Engineering at Swinburne where he developed Australia's largest and most successful compulsory work-integrated-learning program.

Professor Gillin has always had a special interest in entrepreneurship and wealth creation from engineering and innovation. In 1989, he founded the world’s first Master’s Degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which became a flagship course for Swinburne.

Professor Gillin was also the Director of the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship, which is re-launching at Swinburne in 2017.

In 1997 Professor Gillin received the Order of Australia award (AM) and an Honorary Doctorate from Northeastern University, Boston, United States of America, for contributions to teaching entrepreneurship.

Retiring from Swinburne in 1998, he became Emeritus Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Swinburne, teaching into Swinburne’s postgraduate business courses.

The award - Doctor of Business (DocBus) - was presented by Chancellor Graham Goldsmith in a ceremony on Tuesday 20 December.
