Biography

I am a lecturer in creative writing and coordinate the Writing Fiction and Reading, Writing and Criticism units and undergraduate level and the postgraduate Writing for Mobile and Social Media, Online Writing, and New Media Writing units. I am the author of a collection of short stories (My Real Life and other stories) and two novels (Holocaust Tours and Little Sister) all published by Vintage Books. I have also published short fiction, reviews, essays and articles in a range of journals and magazines. I was the winner of the New Zealand Society of Authors Hubert Church Award Best First Book Award for Fiction in 2005, the Katherine Mansfield Award for Short Fiction in 2008, a recipient of the Buddle Findlay Frank Sargeson Residential Fellowship in 2009, and was shortlisted for Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Crime Novel in 2013, and the Commonwealth Short Story Prize in 2014. I am open to supervising thesis work in creative writing, literary studies, creative non-fiction, and non-fiction artefact and exegesis projects.
