Otto Luznik

Otto Luznik is a long-term resident of Blackburn where he lives with his wife and two children. He is employed full-time as a financial controller with a Richmond-based construction company, and over the past 20 years has had vast experience in a wide array of industries, including manufacturing, import/distribution and construction.

Otto graduated from Swinburne a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) in 1990, and with a Graduate Diploma in Corporate Finance in 1994. Since then he has also completed master’s degrees in Taxation (1999) and Commercial Law (2004) at Monash and Melbourne universities respectively.

“Swinburne was the university that first gave me an opportunity to be a full-time student—I applied directly through the university as my grades were not high enough to apply through the normal channels, and was accepted—and I have always remembered that,” he says.

“If it were not for Swinburne and the opportunity to study accounting, I can only guess that my life would have been very different.”

To show his appreciation, Otto has donated to the Annual Appeal every single year since 1994.

These days, Otto also teaches at the university as a part-time “sessional”, which he thoroughly enjoys.

“I have been teaching for the last four or five years—currently, three hours on Wednesday nights—and I love the opportunity to contribute and to really feel part of the Swinburne family,” he says.

“Swinburne has given me the chance to contribute to the next generation of accountants by bringing in full-time practitioners who are engaged in the day-to-day world of business.

“I have always liked Swinburne for the great mix of academic and real world experiences it offers. I really like the blend of the two, and as far as I know, Swinburne excels at this” explains Otto.

“As far as I am concerned, Swinburne has given me many opportunities that I will always appreciate.”
