Zoe Warne
At 27 Zoe Warne has built a successful and dynamic career carving her own niche in the fast-paced world of online strategy and communications. As a result she has been recognised as one of Australia’s top 30 entrepreneurs under 30 in both Anthill Magazine and SmartCompany.
The Swinburne alumna is co-founder and co-director of August – a Melbourne based digital agency that takes advantage of opportunities presented by new and emerging technologies. Zoe established August in 2005 with partner Daniel Banik and fellow Swinburne graduate Matthew Agar. August is tracking steadily at 400 per cent business growth, and a rapidly expanding client list that includes Fosters Group, Sustainability Victoria, Snowgum and Dairy Australia.
Raised in a family where both parents ran separate small businesses, entrepreneurial flair is in Zoe’s blood. However it was as an 18 year-old multimedia student at Swinburne, that she got her first taste of the business world.
In an effort to make some extra money Zoe established the graphic design division ‘Boardwalk Enterprises’ of her stepfather’s consultancy firm.
As a student she also took advantage of Swinburne’s Industry-Based Learning (IBL) program. She undertook her work placement at a start-up online gaming company, where she gained valuable insights into business development.
“The IBL experience allowed me to see how a fledgling business, with a great idea and great people can take off. It was an access-all-areas placement - working closely with the company founders and marketing manager, which provided priceless experience in 'how to' and 'how not to' run a successful business," she said.
Zoe is passionate about new and emerging technologies, and is continually looking for new ways to use them to create business success.
