Aims and objectives

This unit exposes students to technologies influencing participation and engagement in health, wellbeing and healthcare. These are changing how citizens and patients engage with the health system, each other and their own health management. Students will explore how these technologies are impacting people’s lives and examine factors affecting their adoption and use within society.


Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Define and explain the principles of patient activitation, participation in health and ePatients
2. Describe digital health and assistive technologies in the context of enabling partication in health
3. Define, describe and critically analyse core concepts, theories and issues facing the use and adoption of technologies in society
4. Critically evaluate a technology and report on the experience
5. Develop and present a strategy for using technology to enable participation in healthcare
