As a professional who has worked in legal services for 16 years, Maree Goodrick is no stranger to hard work.
Maree commenced her career within the legal sector in 2000. Shortly following her move from Hobart to Melbourne in 2011, it wasn’t long before her talent was recognised by one of Melbourne’s most established legal practices when Maree took up the role of Executive Assistant to the Chairman of Partners.
Maree – Graduate Certificate in Applied Business.
In this position, Maree’s biggest challenges were working in a particularly demanding and fast-paced environment, where changes happen quickly and clients require prompt advice. Despite performing well in this setting, Maree was encouraged to formalise her experience with qualifications. This gentle nudge came from her partners who were, and continue to be, highly supportive of her ongoing career development.
She selected Swinburne for her studies primarily due to the flexibility of delivery: the course she nominated, the Diploma of Management, is designed specifically for working professionals.
Maree completed her Diploma of Management in July 2015 and went on to complete a Diploma of Human Resources Management in December 2015. She is now on the verge of completing her first postgraduate qualification, a Graduate Certificate in Applied Business.
She articulates the key value of her study, particularly the Graduate Certificate, as enabling her to have a clear shift in thinking processes - “My thinking has developed and I can see things from different angles. I can see things from others’ perspectives more clearly and communicate more persuasively. I now think strategically – something I was unable to do prior to undertaking my studies with Swinburne.”
As this was the first time she had studied in over 10 years, Maree was admittedly a bit nervous to begin with, but now she reflects on her learning journey as a very positive experience.
