Swinburne Philanthropy and Social Impact Alumni Scholarship

The Swinburne Philanthropy and Social Impact Alumni (SPSIA) is a group of past and present students who are passionate about philanthropy and social impact.


SPSIA will provide two $6,000 scholarships for students currently enrolled in the Master of Social Impact or the Graduate Certificate of Social Impact course intending to articulate to the Master of Social Impact course. The purpose of the scholarships is to lift some of the financial burden associated with studying, particularly students who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Open to full time and part time students.


Courses eligible

Students must be currently enrolled in the Master of Social Impact  or the Graduate Certificate of Social Impact with the intention of articulating into the Master of Social Impact - with completion of at least one subject.

The Master of Social Impact arms you with the skills you need to become an agent of social change through a social enterprise of your own or from inside the organisation you work for. Dig deep into the complex social, environmental and economic challenges facing business and society.

 


Eligibility / selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
  • Currently enrolled in the Master of Social Impact or Graduate Certificate of Social Impact with the intention of articulating into the Master of Social Impact – with completion of at least one subject

  • provide evidence of financial or personal disadvantage. Disadvantage(s) may include:
    • financial difficulty or low-socio economic status (Centrelink statement, payslips. Bank statements can be used if an explanation is provided in a personal statement)
    • disability or medical condition
    • delay or interruption to career or studies because of family responsibilities or illness
    • relocation from a rural or regional area in order to undertake tertiary study
    • English as a second language
    • identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
    • First in family to attend university 
  • provide two referee reports outlining your suitability for the scholarship:
    • an academic reference - from a person qualified to comment on academic studies, such as a subject coordinator, school principal, etc.
    • a character reference - from a person competent to supply a character reference such as a current or past employer.
  • provide answer to the following question:
    • Tell us in 100 words or less how the COVID-19 pandemic and
      restrictions has impacted your financial situation to continue your studies
      in the Master of Social Impact or your intentions to articulate from the
      Graduate Certificate in Social Impact to the Master of Social Impact course

Value

The scholarship is valued at $6,000 for one year.
