Aims and objectives

This unit introduces students to the field of digital health that uses digital information and telecommunications technologies to support remote clinical hearing health care. It supports students in the development of practical skills and theoretical knowledge in remote hearing care and in the application and support of appropriate hearing solutions. Students will develop transferable telehealth and communication  skills appropriate for remote care, and skills to act in a triage role in an adaptable healthcare setting. Proactive counselling and empowerment of people are critical and growing skills will enable students to be globally ready for remote areas and health in the home.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Apply the concept of triage in a teleaudiology setting
2. Communicate strategies with the hearing impaired using teleaudiology
3. Clearly articulate individual client needs including referral considerations
4. Evaluate the impact of hearing impairment
5. Explain how hearing aids work and address common user needs using teleaudiology
