Aims and objectives

Students will gain an understanding and appreciation of a range of medical technologies and their applications by studying the principles of measurement science, data acquisition and analysis for the biomedical sciences.


Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Describe the components and operating principles of medical technologies.
2. Describe current and emerging technologies related to medical monitoring and treatment.
3. Apply scientific and quantitative approaches to biomedical measurement and data acquisition.
4. Acquire and analyse physiological signals using biomedical instrumentation.
5. Critically evaluate a medical technology and its applications.
6. Program Labview software for computer based data acquisition and display.
