Aims and objectives

This unit of study aims to introduce to students the need for sustainability, the knowledge and practical aspects of value added design and the importance of energy management.

Unit Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of sustainable design and manufacture for environment through familiarization with the sustainability rules (K1, K2,K6)
2. Analyse, improve and design metal and plastics components for particular applications by referring to the value added rules (K3,S1,S2,A2)
3. Demonstrate knowledge of energy saving by calculating the costs involved (K1,K3,S1)
4. Demonstrate knowledge of principles of energy efficiencies and energy balance analysis by linking with engineering management theory (K6, S1,S2,A2)
