Aims and objectives
To provide a theoretical grounding in risk as a precursor to more advanced studies in risk management and risk technology.
Unit Learning Outcomes (ULO)
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Appreciate the philosophy and terminology concerning the idea of risk
2. Appraise and value the nature of human perception and experience of risk
3. Recognise situations where potential loss occurs and how humans respond to these situations
4. Apply general principles and practical techniques of risk identification, assessment, analysis and control

(i) an overall mark for the unit of 50% or more, and
(ii) at least 40% in each of the three assignments
Students who do not successfully achieve minimum requirement (ii) will receive a maximum of 44% as the total mark for the unit and will not be eligible for a conceded pass.
