Aims and objectives

The aims of this unit are to provide students studying aviation with a thorough grounding in the theory of risk and its application in the aviation industry. The unit will also promote the development of risk theory and practice, and should enable students to contribute at a high level to risk management strategy decisions within the aviation industry.

Unit Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

1. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the origins of current risk management theories and practices in the aviation industry
2. Evaluate the effectiveness of current risk management theories and practices in the aviation industry
3. Demonstrate a capacity to promote evidence-based approaches to risk management in the aviation industry
4. Contribute at a high level to the development of risk management practices in the aviation industry
5. Demonstrate through the acquisition of technical knowledge and informed individual written communications the application of risk management theory to current practices and developments of organisations within the aviation industry.
