Overview

This unit builds on and integrates research knowledge from previous units to develop a healthcare innovation project. Specifically, this unit will focus on understanding and evaluating systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and clinical guidelines that inform physiotherapy practice. Additionally, students will become familiar with research proposal development process and develop a practical understanding of how research can be presented. This unit integrates skills and knowledge gained to further reinforce how research can impact on physiotherapy practice.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Critically appraise systematic reviews and clinical guidelines for their relevance to clinical practice
  • Synthesise and critically analyse a current area of research and produce a literature review
  • Interpret findings from systematic reviews with/without meta-analyses
  • Critically review current treatment methods and clinical guidelines and how these may differ in industry practice from research
  • Explore a healthcare innovation and develop a research project around an innovation idea
  • Examine how new evidence-based research and new innovations are implemented into the profession
