Teaching methods
Students choose research projects from those nominated by university research groups and centres. Their choice is subject to approval by the centre or group involved and the unit convenor. A variety of projects will be made available to the student. In exceptional cases, students may negotiate to pursue a project of their own with the agreement of the unit convenor. A regular seminar series, featuring key internal and external researchers, will be offered. These seminars could cover specific research topics or aspects of research project management and generic research skill development. In addition students are expected to participate in regular scientific research seminars that are offered through the research groups housing their project In a Semester, you should normally expect to spend, on average, twelve and a half hours of total time (formal contact time plus independent study time) a week on a 12.5 credit point unit of study.
